by Randy Fairfield, 2/22/17

Edmodo has recently launched some exciting new features on their platform which have made the facilitation of online courses better than ever! In addition, the integration between Edmodo and the Google Suite has gotten pretty slick (with more exciting improvements to come)!

In tandem with these releases, Edmodo will be partnering with MisterEdTech to promote an interactive online course titled, “Using Edmodo and Google to Facilitate 21st Century Learning”. The course will begin March 20, 2017, will last eight weeks, and will cost $129 per participant. Everyone is welcome to participate in the course, and 20 clock hour credits will be offered through ESD 171 for Washington State teachers for a cost of $40 extra to be paid directly to the ESD. Participants will be asked to spend 2.5 hours per week engaging in the course and will learn the baseline technological knowledge needed to integrate Edmodo and Google Apps. The course will also focus on best practice and will ask teachers to be reflective about their pedagogical applications of these tools.

If you are interested in the course, create an Edmodo account if you don’t have one already. You will find the sign-up page for the course and more details here on Edmodo Spotlight! You can also check out the course syllabus here and/or send Randy an email at misteredtech2002@gmail.com if you have any questions! Here’s a bit more information as well:

MisterEdTech Becomes a Hapara Certified Educator

by Randy Fairfield, 1/24/17

Over the past couple of months, I have been participating in a cohort of educators going through Hapara’s Certified Educator program. It has been a pleasure to learn more about the platform, and the facilitators were great! Here’s a special thanks to Evyan Wagner (@evyan_of_hapara), Heather Panitch (@heatherpanitch), Eleni Kyritsis (@misskyritsis), and Amy Harris (@MsharrisEDU) for doing a great job with facilitation.

I am looking forward to going through their certified trainer program and learning more about what I can do to spread the Hapara love! One of the things I appreciated most was that our facilitators emphasized that Hapara is not a “do everything” tool, but rather can be used in a complementary role alongside other tools when it comes to supporting student-centered outcomes. Innovating and imagining where Hapara fits in as a tool for facilitating best practices such as those outlined in John Hattie’s Visible Learning has a lot been fun—particularly exploring other public Hapara Workspaces and seeing how other educators are using the platform. Over the next few months, look for the Hapara section of my website to start to come to life and be a resource for those that are interested!

Our use of Google Sites, Forms, and social media was recognized by the Google Transformation Center as a transformative practice. Since switching from our old website platform, engaging parents and students with Google Forms for voting, and promoting the input we sought with social media, we have seen the number of visits to our website increase by 500%!
